Apparently, law enforcement agents in Queensland’s Fortitude Valley missed Lady Sovereign’s memo for everyone to ‘make way for the S-O-V’, as the pocket-sized Parklife rapper was arrested on Friday night for spitting in the face of a club bouncer.
The news sent ripples and LOLs across the interwebs over the weekend detailing how the UK MC spat in the bouncer’s face after they broke up a fight in the ladies’ bathroom between Sov and another clubber. Having been held by police over night, Sovereign was rushed to court the following morning where she was ordered to pay a $400 fine and $200 to the bouncer she spat on, ABC Online reported.
Thankfully for Parklife fans Lady Sov’s run in with the law didn’t effect her weekend performance, rhyming and (err) spitting up a storm for the Parklife faithful.
Yet it would seem as though the UK rapper is still grappling with the repercussions of the incident, and despite now having a pretty gangsta rep in Australia, Lady Sovereign took to her Twitter account to share her side of the story, and just incase you didn’t think it could get any weirder, it now involves transvestites.
“Brisbane police need to go catch some REAL criminals…..what a waste,” the rapper wrote after her court appearance. “Spitting in someones [sic] face is nasty, but how about a guy dressed up as a girl running at you in the toilets and punching you in the head?” she said, shedding some light on her restroom rumble. “YES THAT’S [sic] WHAT HAPPENED PRIOR TO THE SPITTING… SO EVERYONE PLEASE STOP CALLING ME NASTY, IF YOU WAS THERE YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND…THE TRANSVESTITE MUST OF BEEN A REGULAR BECAUSE I DIDNT SEE NO ONE DRAGGING HIS ASS OUT OF THE CLUB THAT NIGHT.”
Despite the drama that engulfed the first leg of Sovereign’s Parklife tour, the MC expressed that she has indeed been “enjoying Australia”, so anxious Parklife patrons needn’t fear for her upcoming dates! In the meantime, check out the first images from the festival’s big debut in Brisbane over the weekend, only on ITM!
