V Festival's future in doubt

With news reaching the papers over the weekend indicating that V Festival had been shelved for 2010, promoters Michael Coppel Presents have confirmed that after three years working on the tour, they’ll no longer be a part of the brand. The V Festival was the result of a partnership between Coppel and the Virgin Group, but the two companies won’t be working together on the festival next year.

“For the past three years, the Virgin Group and Michael Coppel Presents have worked together to deliver the acclaimed V Festival to Australian audiences. The presentation of V Festival in 2009 concluded this arrangement, and the partnership is not being renewed.”

The statement doesn’t rule out the V Festival returning to Australia in the future under the wings of a different promoter, with the Virgin Group set to make further announcements on the status of V Festival in the coming months. However, it’s definitely looking shaky in terms of the brand making any kind of appearance in 2010.

Coppel have also hinted they’ve got other festival-related projects on the boil. “Michael Coppel Presents will also make further announcements regarding future festival presentations during 2010.”

the second V Festival was one of the best organised events I've attended and overall one of the best festivals I've been to

It's not about partnerships of who's promoting it all about getting a good line-up! If Virgin can secure a mad line-up then it'll be worth bringing the tour down under.

Any one know what is happening with Playground Weekender too!? It's been very quiet, not even any little teasers, assume lineup will be out in November? Been some posts on forum about Playground that caused a fair bit of worry, although seemed to be unfou

Such a shame. The first two were brilliant, but then they had an abysmal lineup for the third.

Haven't missed a V Festival yet -- each year it's been the hands down best event for live artists... V can get whichever they want for their tour, it's all about which promotions group here in Oz have the gumption to host such a top class production!!

Damn Definately the best managed festival going around. Looked after their patrons and provided great facilities. Could have had a better line up in their last year, hope they come back!
