After being kept waiting for an agonising ten years for French masters of the smooth Air to at last come to Australia, fans finally got to experience the band up close when they toured for 2008’s V Festival, making time for a handful of other shows around the country including a prestigious birth at the Sydney Opera House. Having triumphed on that fabled tour, it was unclear if we’d have to wait another decade before seeing the French duo of Nicholas Godin and JB Dunckel on local soil again. Well, an Air return might happen sooner than expected with the band revealing to inthemix that they’re itching to Australia next year.
Speaking to ITM recently from his home in Paris, Godin casually chatted about the band’s joyous new LP Love 2, before gushing about the duo’s affection for Australia. “Coming to Australia is one of the greatest memories I have from a tour,” Godin said in his thick French brogue. “Looking back at over ten years of touring it is where we had the most fun.”
Desperate to know if that fondness would translate into a follow-up visit from the group, ITM pushed Godin to discuss any tour plans, something he was more than happy to talk about. “I hope we’ll be back there next year. I want to come back as fast as I can,” he enthused. “We’re starting to play live again in January and we will tour until the end of next year, and it’s one of our priorities to come back to Australia because we just love it so much.”
Whilst we wait for the pair’s tour plans to develop, Love 2 is in stores now and already getting the warm reception you’d expect for a new Air LP. For a tasty teaser of the album’s tracks check out this Love 2 mash up, and see the video below for an insight into Air’s creative process.
