Australian techno enigma Deepchild AKA Rick Bull may be in the country playing gigs at the moment, but it won’t be for long as he’s got some pretty big international plans in store for next year. As well as a semi-permanent resettlement in Berlin, a wealth of new material out on labels like Trapez, Resopal Schallware, Breakout Audio, Kaato Music (and an excursion into dubstep on the SubContinental Dub imprint), he’s also managed to score himself a prized 3-year “Exceptional Ability” visa for the United States.
“This was certainly a wonderful surprise for me,” Deepchild told ITM. “I performed in Canada and the US west coast in February, and this visa affords me 3 years to return to work whenever I like. The US was the last place I had imagined enjoying performing, but what I discovered was the opposite, especially on the west coast. Wonderful, open-hearted individuals with so much passion for electronic music. I’ve made friends for life.”
His 2010 is already looking fairly action packed, with regular club shows at the likes of Panoramabar, Watergate, Tape Club and Dice Club in Berlin, with locations like Serbia, Prague, Madrid and Barcelona all on his agenda. But before he jets off, you’ll have one last chance to catch him at a series of gigs around the country.
Deepchild tour dates:
Sat 31st Oct – Bar Soma, Brisbane
Fri 13th Nov – Lot 33, Canberra
Sat 28th Nov – Liquid, Byron Bay
Tues 29th Dec – Peats Ridge Festival
