New York City dwelling disco dons Holy Ghost! were a welcome third-heat for this year’s Harbourlife festival in Sydney, bringing their DFA-approved electro-disco tones to match up with Parisian beatmaker Martin Solveig and breaks heavies the Stanton Warriors. The NY duo had also been announced to play a string of shows across the country, however news has arrived today that Holy Ghost! have pulled out of the tour at the last minute.
In a statement issued to ITM by the Future Classic crew, who were due to host Holy Ghost! at their Sydney label night this Saturday, Holy Ghost! have announced the cancellation of their Australian tour, citing the untimely death of friend Jerry Fuchs (drummer for The Juan MacLean, !!! and others) last week.
“Last week our dear friend and musical partner Jerry Fuchs passed away in a tragic accident here in NYC,” the duo wrote in the statement. “Due to these events, we have canceled our Australian tour to be here in NYC with friends and family during these hard times. We regret this immensely and are particularly sorry to have made this decision at the last possible minute. As you can imagine, this past week has been a long, awful blur and rather suddenly today we realized we are just not ready to travel so far from home for what seems like an impossibly long period of time. We love Australia and are grateful to have had the opportunity to visit earlier this year. Hopefully we’ll be back again soon and we’ll get a chance to make this up to you.”
Whilst the duo’s cancellation will undoubtedly be felt at Sydney’s Harbourlife festival, event organisers Fuzzy have acted swiftly, locking in tried and tested electro monsters Beni and KIM from The Presets to step up for party duties.
Future Classic has advised fans already holding tickets to the scheduled club shows to contact promoters in those areas, whilst refunds for the Sydney show can be obtained from purchase outlets.
