School leavers all around the country were revved up to party over the weekend as part of the annual schoolies celebrations, but Queensland Police were on hand to ensure that things didn’t get too out of hand. On Sunday afternoon detectives from the State Crime Operations Command Organised Crime Group arrested a 25-year old man in Tugun on the Gold Coast for drug possession, which police have suggested was bound for schoolies week. And the size of their haul they found in his Honda CRV? Approximately 7000 ecstasy tablets along with 85 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $300,000.

Detective Superintendent Gayle Hogan of the Organised Crime Group told news.com.au that the timing of the massive bust was definitely cause for concern. “It is important to acknowledge the proactive investigation and good police work that contributed to this arrest, but we cannot ignore the timing and size of this seizure,’’ he said.

“In the past we have made similar seizures where quantities of dangerous drugs were bound for Schoolies. It is definitely a concern all of these drugs may have been headed for the same destination.”

Good to see the "Street Value" has been inflated in the write-up

Anyone else notice that whenever a drug bust is reported in the news, the 'street value' is always jacked-up by 150%

i did the math an it's only about 70k out. i'm actually surprised they didn't inflate it more

Arrested for "Drug Possession"? I guess during schoolies week that amount could be considered personal use...

No shit the street value is jacked up. These armchair experts watching the news at night (i.e. our parents) don't know the cost of buying a single pill or gram of coke to do the calculations themselves.

sorted81 .. that's wrong Street value goes up everytime it changes hands, for example for each gram of coke, the maker of them all will sell them for $50 each, then the next person will sell them for $100, then $200, then $250, then eventually in a club

deXXy_Disaster

deXXy_Disaster said on the 25th Nov, 2009

purpose.. street value is what it costs on the street u fool. dunno about the coke but 7000 pills is worth 140-175k on the street (street value not to be confused with mates rates). so obv that figure of 300k is bollocks lol

assuming theyre paying a semi-high price of $30 per pill, and $300 per gram of coke, that is $235500, though the coke price could be higher, and chances are it would be cut down with more shit before it hits the streets anyway, making it go a lot further/
