It looks as though last year’s clean sweep of the ARIA Awards night by local electro heroes The Presets has rubbed off on this year’s set, with crossover electro-pop acts and ITM regulars Empire Of The Sun and Ladyhawke cleaning up at last night’s ceremony.
Whilst the night was filled with traditional ARIAs fair, including commercial pop backslapping for Idol alum Jessica Mauboy and an appearance from a bewildered Robbie Williams, it was definitely a good night for credible Aussie musicians with Empire Of The Sun bagging four gongs (including the big categories of Album and Single Of The Year for Walking On A Dream), while Modular pin-up Ladyhawke picked up awards for Breakthrough Album and Single amid all that controversy. Elsewhere Hilltop Hoods nabbed Best Urban Release and those dudes with the magic touch The Presets snagged Best Dance Release for Talk Like That.
Perhaps even more entertaining than inthemix’s own live-tweets from the ceremony was watching EOTS’ head cheese Luke Steele confound the crowd with his rambling acceptance speeches and references to “Invisible Nick” (Littlemore). Bless ‘im.
