This year’s Amsterdam Dance Event was responsible for bringing lots of tasty gifts to the dance lovin’ fans around the globe, but with ITM on the ground covering the affair there were a few specific rewards reaped for Australian punters in particular. Roving reporter Katrina Loughrey brought a smile to face of every trance fan with the news that ‘Armin Only’ would be travelling to Australia in 2010, but techno obsessives will be just as pleased with the revelation that Minus frontman Richie Hawtin will also be returning to the country next year.
“Next year for sure,” Richie told ITM while at ADE. “We had so much fun at the beginning of this year at the Future Music Festival, we were hoping to come down there with this Plastikman live show early next year, but the timelines didn’t work. But I think we have something tentative around April or May for more of a club tour, so we’re going to try and push that through.”
Something that’s gonna help make it happen is the fact that Richie is itching to get back to Australia. “For a couple years I didn’t come down, and honestly, it was so far to go and I didn’t feel so connected. But thanks to the gang at Future Music Festival, they reinvigorated my interest and connection to the people downunder. We want to keep that going, and not come by every two or three years and say ‘what’s up?’”.
There was definitely some speculation prior to this year’s Future Music Festival tour that Richie Hawtin’s brain had been taken over by his asymmetrical haircut (not to mention his shenanigans with the mysterious/ridiculous ‘Cube’). But by the time the tour had wrapped up, all the doubts had been wiped away after he absolutely smashed it at every show. Would we like another dose? Yes please.
