Itch-E & Scratch-E are an Aussie dance act that are still fondly remembered by many, with their seminal early 90s rave anthem Sweetness & Light recently ranking highly in the triple j’s Hottest 100 of All Time, so the time was ripe for original members Paul Mac and Andy Rantzen to put their heads together again for a rebirth. The duo will be performing live in the Boiler Room at the Big Day Out around the country, but it’s also just been revealed they’ve got a brand new album slated for release later this year!
Hooray For Everything!!! hits the shelves in May, and it’s the result of when Mac and Rantzen got together again, after more than a decade off, to begin jamming in their home studio. So what should we anticipate, musically? Apparently we can expect a mixture of the classic Itch-E & Scratch-E early rave melodies, coupled with an eclectic modern approach that sees them collaborate with all sorts of interesting guests, including New York MC MDNA who guest stars on Other Planets, as well as NZ hip hop Scribe who will actually be joining them onstage at the Sydney and Melbourne Big Day Out shows.
“After not working together for almost ten years we were very curious, and very nervous, about what might happen in the studio,” says Rantzen of the reunion. “As it turned out, I had become itchier than I used to be, and Paul had become scratchier than he used to be.”
Itch-E & Scratch-E’s Hooray For Everything!!! is out through Ministry of Sound in May, catch them in the Boiler Room at the Big Day Out:
