Music lovers were pumped up to dangerous levels when it was announced that Orbital would be joining the lineup for Sydney’s Playground Weekender Festival in February, representing the first time the seminal duo had performed live in Australia for a very, very long time. Of course, we all had our fingers crossed for sideshows and other appearances across the country.

Well lucky for you, all your dreams have come true… Following earlier news that they’d be making an appearance in Brisbane, it’s also been announced they’ll be playing sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney, which should satisfy the burning desire for at least a few rabid Orbital fans out there.

Brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll arguably help set the framework of modern dance music in the 90s with anthems like Halcyon, but it was just as much for their live show that allowed them to earn the status of legends. Witness their headline performance at Glastonbury Festival in 2004, which was voted by Q Magazine as one of the top 50 gigs of all time. Combining live electronics with a huge level of improvisation and visuals, they’re as comfortable today on stage as they were 15 years ago.

After taking a five-year break from band duties, Orbital rejoined the festival circuit in 2009 and have since played at some of the world’s biggest and most successful events. And finally next month, it’ll be Australia’s turn…

Orbital tour dates:

Friday 19th February – Billboard, Melbourne
Sunday 21st February – Playground Weekender, Del Rio Resort
Tuesday 23rd February – The Forum, Sydney
Wednesday 24th February – Family Nightclub. Brisbane
