Ever intent in his quest for world domination, tyDi has approached 2010 with a fresh approach to the new year, doing an about face and completely changing tack. In what will come as a major shock to the local dance scene, tyDi will be packing up his DJ bags from his very first residency he has held since the age of 18 at Australia’s #1 Superclub Family in Queensland and jumping across to the other side of The Valley hub to The Met for a new bi-monthly residency.
In a statement issued by tyDi’s management, the young DJ’s split with his longtime domain at Family stems from that club’s recent change in music policy, shifting “away from progressive and trance” styles. Michael Watt of the Met was swift in his praise for the local champion, noting “it is a pleasure to have a Queensland success story on board. It’s not every day you can boast about working with Australia’s #1 DJ and #52 DJ worldwide.” Especially, Michael reserves some particular affection for the 22 year old DJ/Producer. “It’s an extra pleasure to see his success since I first remember him, judging him at 15 years of age at a DJ competition in Queen Street Mall.”
Since his rise to the summit initially taking out the crown in Central Battle for Central Station Records in 2004, tyDi has climbed the ladder of victory, taking out the #1 spot for ITM50 back to back for 2008 and 2009, releasing his artist album Look Closer and remixing compilations for Ministry of Sound to critical acclaim while topping this all off and coming in at #52 in the DJ Mag World Top 100. Add to this his latest nomination for the IDMA as this year’s Best Break Through DJ, and we have an epic tale of triumph.
tyDi brings his unbelievable accomplishments to The Met, as well as his latest and greatest plan to rule the digital airwaves: his radio show Global Soundsystem on Novanation. His first performance at The Met kicks off on Friday March 5 as the place for Brisbane to be and the rest of the country to listen in to, catching tyDi doing what he does best: playing his thrilling sounds in proper main room fashion. Every two months will see tyDi playing an exclusive three hour set in the Main Room of The Met, with plans for international friends to join him later in the year. With Brisbane’s trance community left disconsolate as a result of the turbulent changes resonating throughout the river city over the last year, tyDi’s revolutionary shift will no doubt inject a great deal of much needed excitement into what has been considered a dying scene.
