The Sunshine State became the Sodden State on Saturday, with heavy rain hitting Brisbane for the kick-off of Future Music Festival. As our photo galleries prove, the Brissie punters didn’t let a little mud underfoot get in the way of a party, but there were a few casualties from the wild conditions.
The Pink Flamingo stage was worst hit by the downpour, with a couple of live acts forced to cancel their appearances. Gold Coast popsters Operator Please and UK crew Does It Offend You, Yeah? were unable to appear onstage after rain played havoc with equipment.
In a Facebook post, DIOYY apologised to the fans who had turned out to see them. “Unfortunately a massive rain storm came in and the stage crew had a nightmare trying to deal with the torrent of water getting into the live electrical lighting and music equipment, before it was decided that it was too dangerous to be on the stage because of the risk of electric shocks.”
However, by 7:30pm the Pink Flamingo was safe enough for Empire Of The Sun to stage its fantastical live show. As reported earlier, the rain could not deter Above & Beyond on the Anjunabeats stage, whose three hours to close the festival was well worth the drenching.
