Fuji Rock line-up kick-starts Splendour speculation

The first 27 acts have been announced for Japan’s Fuji Rock festival, which falls on the same weekend as our beloved Splendour in the Grass festival. Fuji Rock runs from July 31 to August 1; while Splendour will cover the three days from Friday 30 July to Sunday 1 August.

So who can we start adding to our list of possible RSVPs for the 2010 Splendour Mix-Up Tent (which last year hosted Yuksek, Happy Mondays, Friendly Fires and more)? Fuji has certainly snaffled some exciting acts that are ripe for an Australian tour. Top of the list is the full LCD Soundsystem live show, which fans have been hanging out for since last witnessing it in the Big Day Out Boiler Room.

Then there’s Hot Chip – whose latest album One Life Stand houses a couple of festival anthems in its arsenal (try I Feel Better on for size) – and French masters Air, who told inthemix they’re planning a return to Australia in 2010. Also on the Fuji Rock bill is Massive Attack, who presumably wouldn’t return so soon after their March run of shows here, and Brooklyn psych-pop outfit Yeasayer.

While last year’s Fuji line-up didn’t share much love with Splendour, previous years have seen acts playing both festivals. For the first time this year’s Splendour will run over three days, giving the acts a little more time to get down here – and of course the move north from Byron Bay to its new home at Woodford means the festival will be a little closer to Japan!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!

I think someone needs to check their dates and facts... Because Fuji Rock & Splendour are on the same weekend this year.

New Hot Chip album has so many big, heaving, housey festival moments. Tis cool.

This kick-starts speculation on what isn't going to be on at Splendour since they share the same dates
