Melbourne’s wet and wild Future Music Festival

While Sydney was gifted clear skies all day for its date with Future Music Festival, in Melbourne the weather was not so kind. Ponchos and gumboots were the recommended attire, and when the heavens opened in the evening, they certainly came in handy.

Happily though, there was plenty to distract from the drenching. The Likes Of You tent cranked from the get-go, led by Dubfire, John Digweed and a still-charging Sven Vath. As Nick Warren posted on Twitter after the event, the “extreme weather conditions” forced Way Out West to play a shorter set – but fans were thankful all the same.

After an initial scare that the downpour had thwarted Above & Beyond’s closing set on the Anjunabeats stage, the trance headliners were able to step up and deliver. After defeating the rain at Global Gathering in Melbourne two years back, A&B once again delivered a galvanising finish.

The rain on it's own wasn't an issue (i'm a survivor of two washed-out Glastonbury festivals in the UK), it was the conflicting information on the screens, through the tannoy systems and from the security guards. Add to that Vodafone's abysmal failure to
