On Friday night in the picturesque surrounds of Perth’s Kings Park, Massive Attack made its triumphant return. The group’s last visit here was at the beginning of the 100th Window world tour in 2003, so fans have endured a long wait.
As Daddy G told inthemix, the new-look live show is indeed “spectacular”. The visuals – masterminded by United Visual Artists in collaboration with Massive Attack co-founder Robert ‘3D’ del Naja – lived up to their promise; filling the back of the stage with arresting images and political messages. With Horace Andy, Martina Topley-Bird and Deborah Miller all waiting in the wings, there was no shortage of goosebumpy moments (see the thread in the Perth forum for testament).
With so many classic songs in their catalogue, Massive Attack did well to measure the old with the new. We don’t want to spoil anyone’s surprise for the rest of the tour, so go to last.fm if you want to see the Perth set-list.
