Much has been made about the swell in popularity around Italian electro-heads The Bloody Beetroots and even more about their recent rebirth as a live band dubbed Death Crew 77, but if one thing is clear it’s that Australian music lovers can’t seem to get enough of the masked Italians, with demand for their shows bringing them out here in the DC77 guise for Creamfields in May, their third Australian visit in under 12 months.
It would seem as though that affection is reciprocal, as when inthemix caught up with head ‘Beetroot Bob Rifo ahead of the band’s Creamfields tour, Sir Bob spilled all about his love of Australian punters, hyping up his plans for Creamfields in May.
“Australia is one of the first places, if not the first place, to really get what we do,” Rifo said of the Beetroots’ rapid-fire local tours. “A lot of people are getting it now, which is great for us, but Australians got there first. Australians have a relaxed attitude to life and this helps you approach new things [like transforming The Bloody Beetroots into a live act] without prejudice. It feels like home. We speak the same language.”
It would appear as though the Australian connection extends beyond the Bloody Beetroots’ live commitments and out into the studio, with Rifo explaining to ITM that he’ll be doing some recording work whilst he’s here.
“I had four days off in Byron Bay last year with Stereosonic so I set up a little studio in my hotel room to record Katrina [of Cassette Kids fame] and Justin Pearson. I want to record more stuff during the Creamfields days off.”
The Bloody Beetroots will be bringing their raucous Death Crew 77 live show out to Australia for the debut of Creamfields in May. Check the festival dates below and hit up our festival page to catch up on all the Creamfields, err, cream!
