Techno survivor Green Velvet is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing personalities in dance music, and he’s making his way back here for Creamfields in May. The Chicago native responsible for enduring classics La La Land, Preacher Man and Flash has decided to bring his two-man live show for the festival’s debut – and there’s no shortage of material to fill it.
With Creamfields fast approaching, ITM spoke to the man otherwise known as Curtis Alan Jones to hear above his live set-up. “I do a lot of the vocal stuff in the show, and I’ve got this guy doing keyboards,” he explained. “We just get up there and have a fun time. We do some of the classic songs and also some new things. Festivals are great. It’s amazing seeing that many people together having a good time. It’s a party and the more the merrier.”
As fans will know, Green Velvet announced himself as a born-again Christian after a drug overdose in 2006. So will that mean his live performance shies away from the hedonistic anthems of his early years? “I have to do La La Land,” Jones assured us, laughing hysterically in his characteristic way. “It’s not like it pains me to do those things now. I still enjoy that. Australia is always good. No matter what, the people are always…intense.”
Check back on ITM for the full Green Velvet interview soon, with the man musing on the political climate in America, his work on Richie Hawtin’s upcoming Plastikman album and much more. For all you need to know about Creamfields, stay tuned to ITM’s festival page.
