Techno enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating the debut Australian tour for Redshape, which gets going in Perth and Sydney this weekend. The mysterious producer released his debut album The Dance Paradox last year, following several deep and dubby masterworks like Unfinished Symmetry and Alone On Mars?. With such a distinctive body of work at his disposal, inthemix asked Redshape what’s to be expected from his live sets.
“I don’t have pre-recorded breaks or anything,” the man told us as he enjoyed an evening beer in his studio. “I only have like really short parts in Ableton and I arrange every track. I only have beats or piano tones, and I have to move faders and turn-ups to make music out of it. So it’s pretty much as live as you can get. I’m not too sure what I will be bringing to Australia just as yet, but most of the times I play in Europe I bring an extra drum machine for live programming.”
While his signature mask might give the impression of a brooding character, we can expect quite the opposite when Redshape gets here. “I’m actually looking forward to having a great party,” he continued. “When I play live, I get quite ravey sometimes. So some rock and roll partying will be great – I’m going to put some special stuff together before I come on the tour.”
Look out for the full interview on inthemix later this week. Redshape’s tour dates are below.
Friday 23 April – Democracy @ Geisha Nightclub, Perth
Saturday 24 April – HAHA Industries Warehouse Party, Sydney
Friday 30 April – Stable @ Roxanne Parlour, Melbourne
Saturday 1 May – Sugar Nightclub, Adelaide
