As ITM’s hawk-eyed forumers have discovered, the ‘D25’ tour celebrating 25 years of Detroit techno has Australia in its sights. An interview with Motor City great Carl Craig at rhythmism.com reveals the “schedule of DJ performances and special appearances” includes our faraway land. Who exactly we’ll be seeing in the touring party is still a mystery, but it’s certainly an exciting prospect for lovers of Detroit drums.
The D25 concept was launched at the Miami Winter Music Conference in March with a heavy-duty party featuring Theo Parrish, Juan Atkins, Kenny Larkin and several more. A recent addition to the itinerary is Fabric On & On…& On in May, with Craig, Stacey Pullen and Monty Luke representing at the 30-hour non-stop session. Then of course there’s the immense celebration that is the Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit, with a true ‘who’s who’ of techno. Craig is Creative Director for the 2010 festival, so here’s hoping he can translate some of that magic to D25 down under.
