Sci-fi fanatic Joachim Garraud is always given a hero’s welcome down under, and his upcoming visit for Winter Sound System and We Love Sounds is set to be his most exciting yet.
The French house maestro has always pushed the boundaries of the usual DJ set – syncing video throughout and whipping out the keytar for his mega-bomb Meet Her at the Love Parade – but this June he’s going all live. Getting on the phone to Garraud ahead of the visit, inthemix found out just what the ‘Space Invaders’ live show involves.
“My Aussie tour will be amazing,” the man told ITM’s interviewer Erin Moy. “It is the first time that I am doing this new show, with audio linked with video, and live vocals and me playing live. It is something you need to see. I am doing my own visuals and I am bringing two singers with me. It will be a very exciting party.”
Garraud also enthused about the worldwide community he’s started with his Space Invaders podcasts and tours. “Last time I came to Australia – which is something crazy, like a 20-hour flight – I landed and went straight to the venue and saw that the first row had shirts with my Space Invader logo on it.”
The devotion has only deepened since then, though. “I read on my forum something crazy,” he went on. “There are two Japanese guys that are going to fly to Australia to follow my tour, so they were asking other Space Invaders to let them stay at their place. They have already found some people to do it.”
