The gloves are officially off! Jaime Doom, he of Bang Gang DJs infamy, has given Melbourne electro upstarts Miami Horror a verbal arse kicking, calling out them and more local indie-dance bands as being ‘vanilla as fuck’.
As reported by the chaps over at The Vine, in a recent interview with the Bang Gang party-starter and label boss Doom opened up about his disdain for the indie-dance/electro scene that’s shot up in recent years, spewing some particularly entertaining acid at the lily-livered youngsters complaining about late rock ‘n roll nights.
“I really find the whole band thing weird. I’m constantly being told that the “band wants to get on” it pisses me off. Especially because I’m the DJ and these guys spend fucking half an hour sound checking over me and practicing their guitar solos, whilst I’m trying to mix two records without a monitor. But fuck, all these bands are just so vanilla. I mean, what is it with all those Aussie bands that are just vanilla as fuck and Sony music [sic] just keeps pumping out these guys – with their piece of shit, dressed up electro – on a conveyor belt for monkeys to listen to?” Doom said, taking a breath between mouthfuls of venom. “It’s just weird, they’re meant to be some rock n roll dude, but they’re complaining that they want me to finish early, because they want to finish early and go home to bed. Seriously, fuck me! Seriously, if you want to be in bed by a reasonable hour, then go work in a bank.”
Having already laid waste to that scene, Doom went one step further, naming and shaming the group that’s caught the full force of his wrath, namely Melbourne’s Miami Horror.
“The band I was talking about was Miami Horror and you can quote me on that. Hopefully, we can start some sort of feud. Everyone’s to nice to each other in the Australian music scene, we need to start slagging each other off more.”
With ITM already going ‘in-depth’ this week with our big feature What’s gone wrong with our clubs, we’re really impressed by Doom’s brutal honesty here and reckon he should be given some props for speaking his mind. And yes, we are trying to convince him to author a regular ITM column with all the dance music hate he can muster.
