A follow up to The Avalanches’ classic 2000 debut album Since I Left You has been the topic of rumour since 2005, but the indie world’s Chinese Democracy stubbornly refuses to appear on the release calendar. In December 2008 the head of Modular Records, Steve Pav, claimed that he’d receive the album on Christmas Day; but nothing happened.
Then in May 2009 the band reportedly began clearing samples and triple j claimed in January this year that we’d hear the album in October 2010, but then retracted that prediction. However, now the gang at Pitchfork has discovered an exciting new development in the endlessly drawn-out wait.
An administrator on the Avalanches’ message board has made a surprising announcement commenting that: “i hear ariel pink is recording some guest vocals for it and once those are done, the album will be finished (!).”
Meanwhile, The Avalanches’ record label Modular still lists that, “After an overlong silence, the ever-mythical album number two is said to be very near.”
The wait continues…
