Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium – home to the NYE spectacle Sensation for the past two years (but not for a third, as we reported recently) – have revealed plans for a more ‘intimate’ concert space inside the gargantuan venue to cater for concerts and events of around 20,000 people.

To date your average concert at Etihad Stadium has held somewhere in the realm of 60,000 punters, and that understandably puts it a little out of reach for most promoters and touring artists. The move to cater for a lower capacity event will no doubt see a greater number of concerts hitting the stadium in the not too distant future.

“We saw an opportunity for small to medium events, especially during the summer period when the tennis is on,” Etihad Stadium’s Bill Lane told The Music Network today. And with a capacity for 20,000 it would place the venue squarely in between Rod Laver Arena (15,000) and AAMI Park (30,000), the former of which is used regularly for events in the dance space.

ITM has now opened betting on who’ll host the first dance event inside the new 20,000 capacity Etihad Stadium space – make your suggestions/start the wishlist below!
