For James Murphy, the boss man behind DFA and LCD Soundsystem, turning down a chance to write for Seinfeld might have been his best career move yet. Not only is he now traveling around the world playing to massive crowds of party revelers, he has now brought his pretty pictures with him.

Washing ashore on Sydney will be a “visual retrospective of [LCD Soundsystem and DFA] inspired artwork” accompanying the band with a display lovingly referred to as “That’s Cool But Can You Make it More Shit?”.

The attraction is open to the public from Wednesday July 28 until August 3rd from 11am to 6pm daily at the Tom Dunne Gallery whereabouts visitors will enjoy original works by BUREAU and longtime DFA collaborator and art director Michael Vadino. Included in the gallery, visitors will find the infamous lightning bolt sketch that later became synonymous with the DFA label as well as DFA’s commercial artworks, tour posters, and invites for DFA parties.

Describing his experience so far with the exhibit Vadino said “I’m surprised I was able to pull so much stuff together…I was digging around in closets to find this stuff. It’s going to be great for people to see the cohesive aesthetic of everything all together”.

So go and get arty kids! And check out the info on the DFA double-date gigs with LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip below.
