It’s been a tumultuous few years for longstanding free Sydney magazine 3D World, having weathered several changes in ownership to find their current home amongst the Street Press Australia family of titles.

After undergoing a makeover a few months back, switching from newsprint to a smaller-scale glossy format, they’ve now also announced plans to take the magazine interstate. From August 11th 3D World will replace the weekly Zebra dance inserts in Brisbane’s Time Off and Melbourne’s Inpress.

“Zebra will cease to exist inside Time Off and Inpress with the introduction of 3D World in Brisbane and Melbourne,” the magazine’s editor Kris Swales told inthemix. “Those papers will remain consistent in size, with the Zebra pages being handed back to the respective mags to increase their rock coverage.”

It’s not the only change that Street Press Australia have planned, with managing director Craig Treweek telling AdNews that there is a strategy in the works to also launch 3D World into Adelaide and Perth, although as a monthly publication with a cover price attached and sold through newsagents.

Ambitious? Indeed, but don’t expect it to happen in the near future, with Swales indicating they’ve got their hands full launching the title in the eastern states for the time being. “While that’s something we’ll look at down the track, our focus at the moment is on making sure the Brisbane and Melbourne editions are everything they can be.”
