When it was announced that UK original John ‘00’ Fleming would be back here in August for the Liberate tour, the chorus of excitement from ITMers said it all about the man’s standing here. The added bonus of extended sets from J00F only amplified the feeling that this will be a special visit.
Getting on the phone to Fleming this week, inthemix found the good vibes are mutual. “I appreciate all the support I get in Australia and Melbourne in particular, I feel a special connection there,” he told ITM’s interviewer Phillip Bourne, aka Rocca. “I’m so happy I have a bunch of hardcore J00F fans. They just seem to get me; get what I do. It’s actually getting me psyched up to play, knowing that I can forge away in my own style and be appreciated for it.”
The prospect of longer sessions in Australia also has Fleming excited, with the format reminiscent of the J00f Editions club nights he has recently launched at home and in the US. “This tour to Australia is a little similar in a way [to the J00f Editions]. I have longer sets, so you can control the direction and flow of the music as you go along. You can control the dancefloor – which is how it used to be!”
