ITMers were positively buzzing back in July when the news hit that cartoon superband Gorillaz would be making their debut live expedition to Australia as a part of their world tour trek, Escape To Plastic Beach. With three albums full of star-studded collaborations under their belt, thoughts inevitably turned to exactly we would see out here playing with Gorillaz when the animated clan come to life this summer, and now at last we know what’s in store!

As revealed by touring heavies Chugg Entertainment, the longtime mastermind of the Gorillaz project, Damon Albarn, will be joined on the Australian trip by a swag of big names, including The Clash veterans Mick Jones and Paul Simonon as well as Mike Smith, Cass Browne, Jeff Wootton, Gabriel Manuals Wallace and additional back-up singers rounding out the Gorillaz live band.

The guest vocalists coming along for the ride is another story altogether, with the animated crew bringing out a diverse cast of guests including De La Soul, Hypnotic Brass, The Syrian National Orchestra of Arabic Music, Bootie Brown, Little Dragon, Rosile Wilson and even fiery living legend Bobby Womack. And that’s just the start, with Chugg promising more names to be announced soon. Huge news!
