After reinvigorating Sundays in Perth with their now legendary Sessions that have hosted the likes of Matthew Dear, Matias Aguayo and Gui Boratto, Democracy celebrate their third birthday at Ambar this weekend with none other than Berghain badman Marcel Dettmann.

Responsible for the reinvigoration of techno in Perth, Democracy have put themselves on the map in recent years by taking gambles on artists who they believe in and who otherwise wouldn’t have made the trip West. Standout parties include DJ Pierre’s huge set last October and Hernan Cattaneo more recently, both at Ambar, which has been a fantastic new home for the more underground 4/4 sounds.

Berliner Dettmann is know for his feeling for and vision of electronic music, while his DJ sets (Marcel has been made a resident DJ at the old Ostgut and also at Berghain from the very start) are the stuff of legend. Dettmann’s productions always attract attention for his own MDR label and his remixes for the likes of Fever Ray, Junior Boys, Modeselektor as well as Scuba are always distinctly original. His debut long player for Ostgut Ton brought all the various contrasts and distinctions that has made Dettmann one of the most important names in techno.

Come help blow out the candles this Friday night at Ambar with Dettmann, who will be supported by the best of Perth’s techno DJs. Tickets are still available to what is shaping up to be one of the techno gigs of the year.
