While many had pinned hopes on Good Vibrations to snag Mos Def for its 2011 tour, it turns out our chance will come earlier than that. The hip hop great has been announced on the line-up for The Soundscape Festival in Hobart on Saturday 8 January. Go figure! The all-ages festival also boasts a DJ set from Basement Jaxx, plus Mystery Jets, Midnight Juggernauts, Dexter and more.

The prolific Brookyln native is sure to add some headline shows to his itinerary, and there are many ways the set-lists could go. Mos Def’s fourth solo album The Ecstatic landed last year, but he’s always busy on other fronts too. Most recently, he’s lent a verse to Kanye West’s new single Lord Lord Lord and announced some Stateside shows alongside his Black Star buddy Talib Kweli. Maybe the pair has some new material to show off?
