January is the month where an after-work calendar becomes essential, as the city is buzzing with great gigs at every turn. A couple of those on the immediate horizon come from local tastemakers Niche Productions, the people behind many a stellar tour in 2010.
This Friday 7 January, Niche is setting the bar high for the year ahead with the incredible triple-bill of Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer and DaM-FunK (unfortunately a broken foot has prevented Hudson Mohawke from joining the fun). In you’re a fan of DaM-FunK, though, there’s another chance to see him in the intimate surrounds of Tone this Thursday. Our reviewer in Perth sung his praises: “Channelling Stevie Wonder with his dark shades and slicked back hair, the man known as Damon G. Riddick to his mother locked the crowd into a soul-electro funk-fest.”
Just announced is another smaller-scale Niche affair on Thursday 27 January, with “two of the world’s most dynamic DJs’ Benji B and Mark Pritchard. As many of you will already well know, Benji B is joining Aloe Blacc at Beck’s Festival Bar, and his blend of house, dubstep, hip hop and bass music should fill Tone with warm vibes. British expat Pritchard has become a fixture on our dancefloors in recent years, bringing a wealth of experience to any occasion.
