In a weekend reminiscent of the party dominated New Year’s break, the dance scene was positively buzzing over the last couple of days and nights, with high profile events and festivals going down across the country to keep punters dancing.
Kicking off a round of big tours for the season was house legend Roger Sanchez, in the country to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his Release Yourself brand. Already the S-Man has taken in dates across Victoria and in Sydney where Sanchez played a massive five hour set for Kink’s latest reunion.
Speaking of big house DJs and Los Angeles main room supremo Kaskade is also currently touring around the traps for his Dynasty album form 2010. So far he’s stopped by Perth and Sydney with the latter lineup getting a serious blow-out with the likes of Djedjotronic, Housemeister, Malente and Ajax in tow.
Continuing the international love, the weekend also hosted some big names in bass with DJ Marky back on the decks for more high octane shows and Stanton Warrirors returning to Australia to keep things hard and heavy.
Moving onto festivals and arguably the big pick of the bunch from the weekend was found on the Gold Coast where the 2011 Big Day Out festival made its Australian debut with a strong dance lineup of acts like Booka Shade, Primal Scream, The Bloody Beetroots and a crutches-sporting Crystal Castles.
If that wasn’t enough, Victoria felt the festival fever with the arrival of this year’s Hot Barbeque festival. As well as big DJs like the mighty Roger Sanchez, the festival was packed out with acts from all genres including electronic-loving indie types The Holidays and Bluejuice as well as enigmatic hip hop legend Mos Def.
There’ll be more from the Big Day Out festival throughout the week not to mention more big club coverage for tours from Gareth Emery, Laidback Luke and more so stay tuned to inthemix to get your fix!
