Certified electronic legends Depeche Mode can regularly be found filling stadiums overseas some 30 years on from their first release but despite repeated calls and prayers for the UK band to return to Australia, a local tour from Depeche Mode has eluded fans for more than 15 years now.
While we’re about to get a small taste of what we’re missing out on when DM mainstay Andy Fletcher hits Australia for a run of DJ dates with the Playground Weekender festival this month, according to Fletcher there’s still some hope that the whole Depeche Mode extravaganza could hit Australian turf after scrapped plans to visit in 2010.
Speaking to inthemix down the line recently, Fletcher expressed his disappointment at not playing in Australia since the ‘90s.
“It’s always been a bit of a blight on our career that we haven’t been to Australia that many times,” Fletcher told inthemix. “We know a lot of Australian people so that makes it even worse. We tried to get over on our last tour, but Dave [Gahan] had a bit of a bad time and we couldn’t make it” he said before offering a bit of hope by saying that the band are “definitely going to try and get across in future”.
Call us daydreamers, but we’ll take any ray of hope that we can!
