Time to rejoice, Leftfield fans – the legendary electronic act has been confirmed for two special sideshows around their appearances at Future Music Festival. Neil Barnes will bring his band – which includes original vocalists Djum Djum, Earl 16 and Cheshire Cat – to theatre settings in Melbourne and Sydney.
Leftfield’s landmark albums Leftism and Rhythm And Stealth effortlessly traversed dub, techno, reggae and unadulterated ‘90s rave – and that’s the kind of mind-bending mix you should expect from the live show.
“It’s a very intricate and complicated thing to perform,” Barnes told inthemix. “Because we don’t work on the same BPM all the way, there’s a strict order to it: a beginning, middle and end. Just like Leftfield albums, it’s a real journey. We’ve got live drums, lots of keyboards, effects, vocals, percussion; it’s not just with a computer.”
Support at both shows comes from local live heroes Infusion and Melbourne guru Kasey Taylor. Tickets go on sale 9am Thursday 17 February; follow the inthemix What’s On links below for more details.
