After finally coaxing Dave Clarke back to Australia last year, Creamfields had another ace up its sleeve for 2011: Gabriel & Dresden. The duo responsible for evergreen anthems like As The Rush Comes and Tracking Treasure Down was last here in 2005 for the Godskitchen tour alongside Above & Beyond and BT. Little did we know we’d be waiting another six years to see them again.

As fans well know, Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden decided to part ways in 2008 following a charged five-hour set at the the Winter Music Conference in Miami. The statement from Dresden explained that the production partners had been “moving apart as artists”, with Gabriel exploring techier territory on solo singles like Summit. There was also talk of personal differences driving the team apart.

It was a very welcome surprise, then, to see Gabriel & Dresden billed for a comeback set at the Hollywood Palladium to see in 2011 on New Years Eve. As inthemix hears from Dresden down the line from Florida, that show had a domino effect.

“We found our rhythm again within the first 10 minutes of our set on New Years Eve,” he enthuses. “Honestly, it feels like we never missed a beat. We just fell into our roles and assumed them. You know, we tried our hand at the solo thing and we had varying degrees of success, but the offers for the G&D shows were pretty outrageous.”

The two long-time collaborators are in a better place now, Dresden assures. “Our break-up wasn’t so great, you know? Josh and I have done a lot of living in the last three years and there were a lot of personal problems that we both had that we had to deal with apart. We’ve adequately dealt with those problems, which makes it easier for us to work together now.”

That could even mean new Gabriel & Dresden productions. “We’re talking about making music again. There’s really no solid plans. I mean…with the amount of gigs that we’re getting offered, we’ve kind of have to go into the studio and at least try.”

As for the Creamfields shows, expect to hear the songs you know and love alongside some to-the-minute additions. “You can’t come back and play only the old stuff,” Dresden reasons. “We’ve done some new remixes, mash-ups, re-edits together, all kinds of different things.”
