After feverish levels of anticipation, A State Of Trance 500 at last landed in Sydney on Saturday 16 April. The landmark event at Acer Arena sold out weeks in advance, with an army of trance fans eager to celebrate with Armin van Buuren. After all, this is a radio show that has accumulated 15 million listeners over its 500 episodes.
Needless to say, there was a real buzz in the air as the doors opened for ASOT500 Sydney. After listening to the broadcasts from Miami, Johannesburg, Buenos Aires and Dutch city Den Bosch over the last month, now came our turn to experience a bit of history. The mood was set with an opening set from ASOT favourite Shogun, while Armin broadcast live from the backstage studio.
Everyone in attendance (or listening at home) will have their own favourite moment from the night’s gradual build-up – whether it was from tyDi, Menno de Jong, Aly & Fila or Alex M.O.R.P.H. – but the hero’s welcome for the headliner was unanimous. Stepping up at 3am for his three-hour closing set, Armin once again proved why he’s the world’s leading trance ambassador.
Of course inthemix had a photographer capturing all the ASOT500 moments on-stage and amongst the fans, so check out our gallery below from the mighty DJ_LG. Let us know your highlights in the comments field below.
