Admittedly, being May already, this news won’t come as a surprise to many of you. However, following a steady string of queries, Future Entertainment has confirmed that its June festival Winter Sound System is taking a year off. “Winter Sound System will be taking a short hiatus in 2011, although we will return bigger and better in 2012,” reads the update.

The festival – an all-nighter in Melbourne and a midday-till-10pm romp in Brisbane – traditionally shares the bulk of its acts with We Love Sounds, which was announced as insolvent in October last year.

The 2010 WSS line-up was headed by live legends Underworld, with a long list of DJs including Crookers, Steve Aoki, Markus Schulz and Tiga. No Winter Sound System means there’ll be a lot less acts around town in the early days of the chilly season, but here’s hoping 2012 makes up for the lull.

On the upside, June is already starting to fill up with club tours. Dutch sensation Afrojack is on board for the Queens Birthday long weekend, with other recently-announced jaunts from French electro boffin Danger and Bedrock star Guy J. Plenty more to come, no doubt.
