It’s fair to assume that the fabled Sydney Opera House has never seen as much side-boob and ironic moustaches as it did last week when the Modular boss programmed Vivid LIVE festival took over the harbour-side institution for a week’s worth of art, lights and most importantly to all of us, music.
While previous incarnations of the Vivid series have been populated by more rock and alternate acts, the presence of Steve Pavlovic as curator this year meant there were plenty of ITM-friendly acts to dive into with highlights coming from all sides. Perhaps it was seeing Cut Copy command the main hall of the Opera House like bonafide headliners, or catching 2manydjs cutting up a storm in The Studio. Or maybe it was just finding out if mega-hyped LA rappers Odd Future could deliver on their promise.
Given that the dead of winter can often be scant with events we thought we’d do a proper wrap up of the action that went down with Vivid (plus some sideshow action for those not dedicated enough for the road-trip) with galleries in on inthemix from Van She, Azari & III, Horse Meat Disco and more to tuck into.
