In what may be one of our most exciting opportunities yet, ITM has teamed up with Hardware and Totem (the crew behind Creamfields) to give a handful of aspiring DJs the chance to play alongside UK EDM gods Above & Beyond on their upcoming Group Therapy world tour which will hit Australian soil this September.
Above & Beyond will hand select the best DJ in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide to play the opening set of their first ever solo Australian shows outside a festival setting, which according to member Jono Grant will be above and beyond (get it?) anything they’ve done before.
“It’s all about the lighting, the visuals, the production…we think that is so important and that’s how we’ve moved on to where we are now, I’d say,” Grant told ITM when we interviewed him about the tour . “We put on a show; it’s the full experience you’re getting from us.”
Not only will the full experience also include support from Mat Zo and Australian’s own Jaytech, if you’re lucky it could also see you setting the mood for thousands of dedicated trance fans on one of 2011’s most anticipated tours.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a part of this major event then you need to create a 30 minute mix that demonstrates your ability to play the ultimate opening set and get the room ready for pinnacle of the night.
Make sure you keep in mind the art form that is an opening set and think about whom you’re warming up for (you’ll be on before Jaytech). According to the trio, the winning DJs will need to demonstrate restraint, progression and consideration with a mix that is deep, melodic and definitely below the 128bpm mark.
Can you think of a better way to kick-start your career? We sure can’t. So hurry up and get mixing.
