Grumble as some purists may about the encroachment of big festivals on the greater live music culture but as we saw over the weekend Australia’s festivals still shine on, with the annual Splendour In The Grass bash going down once again with a sea of fans making the pilgrimage up to Woodfordia once again. This year might’ve been missing a one-two punch of LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip (and didn’t sell out in the end as previous editions have) but there was still plenty to tuck into with James Blake, Kele and Cut Copy all showing their goods. Another big draw was the exclusive performance of Kanye West and looking at his spectacular stage-filling show we’re definitely a little cheesed we missed it!
Speaking of the Splendour massive, with the festival’s arrival came a bunch of sideshows over the last couple of days with Pnau, Friendly Fires and DJ Shadow in his ‘Shadowsphere’ setup bringing in the punters.
Another big talking point right now is of course our inthemix awards and its offshoot club tour with Andy Murphy, Tom Piper, Danny T and The Stafford Brothers flying the flag. This weekend was another busy one with a bunch of club showdowns happening and you can scope out the action below.
Think the fun stops there? Nope! Australian dance fans are currently spoiled for choice with live entertainment including tasty tours from John ’00 Fleming and Orjan Nilsen as well as local heroes like Opiuo and ShockOne making the rounds.
