Between releasing a debut album Seventeen Past Midnight in April and touring it like crazy, you wouldn’t expect local stars The Aston Shuffle to have had much time for the studio. It was a surprise, then, to see a few tweets from the duo hinting that new material is already taking shape. Our interest piqued, we got in touch with Mikah Freeman to find out if the Astons are really as industrious as they’re letting on.
“Yeah man,” enthuses Mikah when we track him down. “After the release of Seventeen Past Midnight we’ve been hitting the studio pretty hard of late and there’s some real magic coming out. What took us like two years to put together for the last album has taken like a couple of months, and we feel we’ve really learnt some lessons from last time and are really nailing ‘our sound’.”
As it turns out, the guys are prepping a new single they’ve worked on with songwriter/producer Styalz Fuego, Won’t Get Lost, for release in the next couple of weeks. “It just sounded so warm and summery and epic in the demos that we’re just like, ‘Why not get this out there now?’,” Mikah revealed. “So I’m up in Sydney with Vance for the next couple of weeks finishing it off and working it into the new live show and rehearsing it for Parklife.”
Sounds good to us. If you’re heading along to Parklife, make sure to make a beeline for The Aston Shuffle live show to hear their handiwork.
