With the weather holding up its end of the bargain, Parklife got off to a breezy start at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Grumbles from a lengthy queue were soon remedied by a long day of spring-time festivalling.
With such a diverse and sprawling line-up on show, the musical highlights started early. Ed Banger’s firebrand SebastiAn ignited the Kakadu Stage just before three, while Death From Above 1979 lived up to their raucous reputation with a full-throttle set on the Atoll Stage. For many the star of the show was Parklife pro Diplo, whose hour was every bit as incendiary as he prepared us for.
For the bass-lovers, it was all about the Cave Stage, where the likes of Flux Pavilion, Nero and Feed Me brought the unrelenting bottom-end, before Simian Mobile Disco closed things out with a set of acid rave. Meanwhile over on the Kakadu Stage, Magnetic Man brought it all to a dazzling close.
