After spending 20-plus hours on a plane down here, who could blame the stars of Parklife 2011 for wanting to cut loose? With the festival kicking off in Melbourne on Saturday, the headliners all rolled on to Roxanne Parlour, where Diplo and Simian Mobile Disco were billed to DJ for a packed room of after-partiers.

As it turned out, the DJ booth was about as crowded as the dancefloor, with the likes of Skream, Benga, Artwork, Example, Anna Lunoe and The Crystal Fighters all shoulder-to-shoulder.

Having delivered one of the festival’s most galvanising party sets, Diplo did it all again in much more intimate surrounds, even managing a respectable stage-dive. The rest of the night was a blur of rave bangers from the Simian Mobile Disco dudes, impromptu MCing, a few unannounced stints on the decks and a lot of spilt vodka. As you can see from the glazed eyes and fist-pumping in the booth, there would’ve been plenty of sore heads on the Sunday flight to Perth. Can Sydney expect these kinds of scenes at its official after-party? Our money’s on ‘yes’.
