Sydney and Melbourne enjoy the occasional joust, and this past fortnight it was the battle of the Parklife after-parties. On the festival’s first weekend, Melbourne set the bar high with its unhinged kick-on at Roxanne Parlour. Despite the prospect of a flight to Perth the next morning, a good chunk of the line-up rolled along to that one to cut loose in the DJ booth. Diplo crowd-surfing across a tightly-packed dancefloor says it all about the mood.
Not to be outdone, Sydney responded with its own star-studded all-nighter following Parklife on Sunday 2 October. The spot where it all went down was Fake Club in Kings Cross – perhaps the most intimate space you’re likely to see Nero, Diplo and Simian Mobile Disco billed together anywhere in the world. Daniel Stephens – the half of Nero representing in Australia – was a late entry to the line-up, but the surprises kept coming on the night.
Headliners A-Trak, Feed Me, Flux Pavilion and the guys from Magnetic Man couldn’t resist a spin, turning Fake Club into a sweaty, heaving mini-Parklife until dawn. Everyone will have their own highlights, but there was certainly no arguing with Diplo’s party-owning abilities. Then, of course, they all had to be up bright and early to fly to Adelaide for the final festival stop. Just be glad if you got to sleep in!
With such a heavyweight cast on show and a club packed to the gills, inthemix sent a photographer along to capture the action. Check out the photo gallery below and a video of Nero bringing the bass.
