After two whirlwind weeks, Parklife’s star players are heading home. The sprawling fleet of bands, DJs and associated others certainly earned some time off, with five festival stops (and a few cheeky after-parties) in 14 days. International acts often wax lyrical about the quintessentially Australian experience of the touring festival, and we’ve got the photos to prove just how much fun the acts had together. After all, how can you make dance music and not enjoy a party?
As Parklife snaked its way around the country, inthemix was there to capture it all on camera. You’ve probably already trawled through the photos from your city, but we’ve now pulled together a pictorial round-up of the tour that you can check out below.
We know it’s boring to talk about the weather, so we’ll just say some cities got lucky while others had to look past the grey skies and grizzly conditions. Every festival has a success story, and for Parklife it’d have to be Example, whose hour of power was met by ecstatic crowds at each stop. Rivalling Example in the crowd-pulling stakes was the heavyweight bass of Nero. To paraphrase Jaws, next time we’re gonna need a bigger stage.
Dubstep was always going to be the defining sound of the festival, encapsulated in Magnetic Man’s shuddering finale and the bulk of the Cave Stage drawcards. However, you didn’t have to be wedded to the wubbs to run amuck.
Live acts again made a strong impression on Fuzzy’s agenda, with plenty of savvy bookings. Those who sought out Sebastien Tellier were rewarded with a tightly-honed set-list spanning Divine to La Ritournelle, Digitalism exhibited their obvious love of playing live, Simian Mobile Disco whipped up a rave and The Streets gave a rowdy farewell. With so many acts on offer, we probably haven’t mentioned your favourite yet, so let us know who impressed in the comments below.
