You and Limp Bizkit can channel Daft Punk together!

You might have developed a taste for obscure disco 12-inches, but we wouldn’t blame you for once breaking stuff to the sounds of Limp Bizkit. This humble editor was there without apparent irony when the band played Big Day Out in 2001. Maybe you were too. There’s no judgement here.

In any case, the Bizkit is touring in 2012 for the Soundwave festival, which just dropped its full line-up over on FasterLouder. It’s certainly a surprise inclusion, given Soundwave’s head honcho wrote on Twitter a while back, “There is no way in hell any festival in Australia would be stupid enough to book them again.”

We can already see some of you typing an anguished comment about how this tour made it onto inthemix. Firstly, it’s Friday afternoon, so let’s just chill, have a laugh, grab a glass of hot dog flavoured water (inside joke for the fans). Secondly, as you’ll no doubt remember with great clarity, Fred Durst and co. have a deep connection to the legacy of dance music.

As returning guitarist Wes Borland told Guitar Edge last year, the band’s recent album Gold Cobra finds the Bizkit tapping “a fun party kinda vibe; a little like the old stuff but with a Daft Punk vibe thrown in.” Anyone heard it to confirm? Okay, let’s move on then. Hey, have you see the video for lead single Gold Cobra? It’s certainly channeling a “vibe” of some kind, but it’s a bit more Kid Rock than Robot Rock.
