The prodigious (and prolific) Matthew Dear has spent the last year or so travelling the world with his live band, but in January he’ll be flying solo down this way for a couple of DJ dates.

Dear released Black City in late 2010, an album that proved yet again he’s not an easy one to pin down. “This is one of the weirdest, funkiest and impeccably produced synth-pop albums of the year,” our reviewer wrote, and that sentiment was widely shared.

In DJ mode, Dear tends to keep it dark and hypnotic, but we imagine he’ll be packing some summer-ready records as well for this January jaunt. So far we only know about dates in Sydney and Melbourne, but we’ll keep you posted.
