Who the heck is Smokin Joe Mekhael? If you’re to believe his own shameless PR, he’s “The Most Electrifying Man in Dance Music Today”. That’s quite the call – but given the alleged DJ has attracted enough of a following to make it into this year’s inthemix Top 50 poll, he may yet fulfil his self-created prophecy.

More importantly, why the heck should you care? Well, Smokin Joe has vowed to be the first DJ in the history of the world to stay behind the decks for seven days straight. DJs have been responsible for some pretty ridiculous stuff in the past, but this may just take the cake.

In preparation for what can only be described as a death wish, Mekhael has promised “one of the weirdest sets ever” – an eight-plus hour DJ session, without breaks, going down in just a matter of days. From the curiously precise time of 8.05pm until 4.34am, Mekhael will be playing a silent disco alone in a tiny little glass room called “the cube”. But what if he has to pee?

What’s more, the PR machine is in overdrive today with the recent school formal scam story, that saw a bunch of unwitting Year 12’s got duped out of their money and their formals by a dodgy website. Stepping in to save the day, Smokin Joe has proved his good guy credentials by offering to play at the formals of affected schools for free.
