New Order keyboardist Gillian Gilbert has revealed in an interview that the recently reunited new wave pioneers will be headed to Australia very soon. Speaking with a Brazilian paper in support of their forthcoming South American shows, Welch let slip the band is putting recording new material on hold to tour down under: “We will do more festivals, we are going to Australia. We’re not thinking about recording, we’re just enjoying it now.”

After a long hiatus, New Order reunited in September this year minus Peter Hook, with Gilbert joining founding members Bernard Sumner (vocals) and Stephen Morris (drums) along with guitarist Phil Cunningham and Bad Lieutenant bassist Tom Chapman.

The last time we saw the group in Australia was Big Day Out 2002, where they lit up the mainstage with a brilliant set-list. In fact, if you delve deep into the inthemix archives, you’ll find a glowing review from Sydney.

“The vibe running through the reminiscing crowd was unforgettable,” our reviewer wrote. “In the closing minutes, the boys delivered the almighty Blue Monday in the setting sun.” The hour set also included Transmission, Rock the Shack, Bizarre Love Triangle and Temptation: win-after-win for fans. Almost a decade has passed since that tour, so we’re buzzing about this news. Stay tuned.
