It’s been a big 113 (at time of update) hours for self-made inthemix celebrity and ‘Human Headline’ Smokin Joe Mekhael. On Friday 16 December, Smokin Joe kicked off his attempt to break the Guinness World Record for longest ever DJ set. Brazil’s DJ King did five days and 19 minutes: his challenger is going for seven days straight. However, DJ King’s record is set to be broken around 9:30pm on Wednesday 21 December.
Smokin Joe is settled in at The Empire Hotel in Sydney’s King Cross for his marathon session, and you can watch it streaming live before heading over to his dedicated love-in thread in the Sydney forum to cheer him on. As expected, apart from the occasional fist-pump, he’s looking pretty exhausted on the Smokin-Joe-cam, but ‘The Most Electrifying Man In Dance Music Today’ sure knows how to back himself.
“I cannot use USB sticks, CDs are my option here,” the man told DJ Warehouse recently. “The longest track I will play will be a progressive house track ranging between 10-15 minutes. Smokin’ Joe Mikhael does not take the easy way out! I cannot repeat the same song within a 4 hour timeframe, however I plan on taking that one step further by not repeating a song for the whole 168 hours.
“There’s no limit on Red Bull or Caffeine however the doctor advised against much of it as it can contribute to having a heart attack. And obviously Smokin Joe Mekhael will break this record without using drugs!”
