It’s been a couple of years now since our last audience with Pokerflat boss Steve Bug, and this March sees him return for just one weekend. The fly-by visit begins in Melbourne alongside Silicone Soul, then moving on to Sydney for a Saturday night at Chinese Laundry.
2011 was another heavy year of gigging for the seasoned DJ, along with his lead role at Pokerflat and its house-leaning offshoot Dessous. Late last year, Pokerflat released the second chapter in its Forward To The Past compilation series, this time with a focus on acid. Bug himself appeared with This Is Acid, alongside throwbacks from the likes of KiNK, Vincenzo, Sasse and Motorcitysoul. It’s as a DJ, though, that Bug remains most in-demand.
“I still hear a lot of DJs just banging deep, with long breaks and a kick-drum filtered high,” Bug commented to inthemix back in 2009. “Banging it back in so everyone throws their hands in the air, you know? That might work for me for half an hour, but it’s not what I’m focusing on on the dancefloor. I prefer the music you can lose yourself to.”
